I will be forever grateful to my family, who patiently endured my preoccupation with this book over a two-year period and gave much love and support that sustained me. I would also like to give a very big thank you to proofreaders and those who kindly read the draft, providing invaluable feedback. Peter Sandy’s critique of the book was exceptionally helpful, with a breakdown of his thoughts on each chapter. Friends with whom I conversed also provided much helpful direction. Much of the content of this book, especially regarding addictions, sin and perfection, was inspired by friends, patients and acquaintances who have been struggling with bad habits. In particular, during the period of writing, I was running a prayer ministry at church, which was often attended by people struggling with drug, alcohol, gambling and sexual addictions. I saw these people pouring their hearts out at the foot of the cross. This helped to put into perspective the human condition, the beauty of God’s mercy and our desperate need of getting into harmony with God.
